Safety Progetto Zero

After seven years, let’s uncover what’s new and different!

Progetto ZERO is an initiative established in 2017 by the factory workers, aimed at eliminating workplace accidents through widespread employee involvement. This project emphasizes the importance of safety and health in the manufacturing environment, fostering a culture where every worker is actively engaged in identifying hazards and implementing preventative measures. By promoting a collaborative approach to safety, Progetto ZERO seeks to create a safer workplace, ultimately enhancing productivity and
safety citizenship.

In addition to its focus on safety, Progetto ZERO aligns with broader sustainability goals within the company. The initiative not only addresses immediate safety concerns but also contributes to the overall well-being of employees and the community. By integrating safety protocols into daily operations and encouraging continuous improvement, MP3 shows its commitment to creating a responsible and sustainable business, focusing on people and environment care.

The promoters of the Progetto ZERO are still almost all in MP3, today with different functions, and they remember how during the organization of the 2017 training sessions, influenced by visits to more structured customers and suppliers, they were looking for a common thread that would unite all the topics of Safety, Quality, Hygiene, Efficiency and Sustainability. As a joke, one of them proposed the words of Martin Luther King “I have a dream” and the leitmotiv was there! From that moment, different company functions and many workers began to collaborate more actively towards a common direction, or rather the dream of reaching ZERO injuries, ZERO incidents, ZERO complaints, ZERO waste.

We are now at the first turning point of the Progetto ZERO, and the prefixed result, “the dream”, has not been achieved 100%, but the change has been exceptional: the days of absence due to injury in previous years have been more than halved.

This impressive result was achieved thanks to everyone’s participation towards understanding the centrality of everyone’s role in achieving the necessary improvement. We are far from ZERO, but the team together with our new HSE Manager colleague, who joined MP3 in July, has several aces up his sleeve to turn this virtuous path around and reach those challenging goals that are still out of reach.

In recent years, the focus of the Progetto ZERO has not been to reach ZERO accidents (an extremely challenging goal for any company, even a very structured one), but to start a cultural and mentality change in the company, starting with the workers. In this way, we have moved to an active and proactive perception of Safety, where an action is not taken as a response to coercion or an obligation but is done because its value is understood and shared. This was the very powerful lever that led MP3, with a sensitivity to Safety in line with the national average (very low), to the company of today, where the sensitivity to this matrix is extremely high.

2024 is almost over, and a new safety program is going to be presented by the end of the year, building on the principles of Progetto ZERO, but focusing on leadership and leaders with the aim of keeping improving and capable of transmitting to the new resources the value that MP3 has given to the Safety.
